Who We Are

Ed Geis
Designer, Writer, Photographer, and Production Manager

Ed founded Headwaters after earning a Ph.D. in literature. His literary and artistic bent is complemented by an interest in computers and the mechanics of desktop publishing. As a designer, Ed seeks to bring an organic, human warmth to the digital world. When he's not playing with pixels or wrangling words, Ed enjoys sea kayaking, songwriting, and firefighting (view Ed's résumé).

Marina Schauffler
Writer, Editor and Photographer

Marina has worked as a writer, editor and communications consultant for 20 years, serving on the staff of the Maine State Planning Office and Maine Coast Heritage Trust before going out on her own. She holds a Ph.D. in ecological ethics and values, a subject covered in her book Turning to Earth (University of Virginia Press, 2003). Outside the office, Marina enjoys organic gardening and exploring the natural wonders of Maine on foot and by canoe and kayak.
